There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Miles Morale s since he became Spider-Man, and a not-insignificant amount of that controversy surrounds his father and his name, Jefferson Davis. While the fact that Miles Morales’ father shared a name with the President of the Confederate States was deeply uncomfortable, that has officially changed.
The horrible thing is that he died in an attempt to save a fellow officer during the attack on New York City Hall by the Demons. Why Is Jefferson Davis Not Morales? As a result of Miles’s mother’s first name being Morales instead of Davis, he has no relation to Jefferson.

Maybe it is here to imply that Morales’ universe in the movie is not our universe, hence that universe is not more important than the other universes (Spider-man Noir, manga version,…) that are depicted in the movie. The end of the movie hints a possible sequel.
