The Marvelous Mrs Maisel fans saw a return of resident singer and sweetheart Shy Baldwin (LeRoy McClain) in the fifth episode of the latest season – albeit under unhappy circumstances.
However, he’s likely based on one or more real-life musical icons of the period. Names like Chuck Berry, Paul Anka, and Ray Charles have been thrown around online, but the internet’s most popular theory is that Shy Baldwin is based on legendary performer Harry Belafonte.
Midge will need to bounce back after being kicked off Shy Baldwin’s tour. At the end of season three, Shy Baldwin’s manager Reggie (Sterling K. Brown) fired Midge from the tour because he was concerned Midge’s jokes about Shy may have outed him as a gay man in the ’60s.
Whichever icon Shy Baldwin is based on, we still have our fingers crossed for a “Hava Nagila” cover. Midge doesn’t know about the gambling yet—and she probably won’t be happy when she finds out in season four.
The show’s title character hit Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami, and more in season three. Midge’s travels will only continue in season four, according to the show’s creators. “Luckily, in a single camera universe and with the way that we can tell stories and build these sets, I think it always feels organic to the show when they’re [Midge and Susie] in very, very different locations because that’s gonna continue on obviously in this show,” Palladino told Women’s Health.

The third season of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” was released on December 6, 2019, and almost immediately netted the show a renewal: just six days later, Amazon announced that Season 3 had the show’s most-watched opening weekend yet, and a fourth season was confirmed, with plans for a Spring 2020 shoot (via TVLine ).
Deadline reported that “the show’s entire regular cast” is returning for Season 4. Looking at the roster for Season 3, those regulars would seem to include the core cast of Rachel Brosnahan as Midge, Alex Borstein as Susie, Michael Zegen as Joel, Marin Hinkle as Rose, and Tony Shalhoub as Abe.

With production delayed and readapted, Amazon has not yet shared official plot information on Season 4 of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” — all we have to go on, for now, are a handful of set photos.
